How do i organize my book?

i pretty much just finished writing this novel ive been working on for the past month. the only problem is i wrote all the scenes with no order and now i don't know how to organize them correctly. any suggestions?

  1. i would take each part of writing and decide if it will happen in the beginning, middle, or end of the story. Then go to each of these categories and start to place them in an order that flows well and that may cause some suspense towards the end. Keep the reader intrigued. Hope this helps!


  2. Actually, you finished writing a draft. You haven't finished writing the novel at all, sounds like.

    You can sit down with a pack of index cards and write each scene's summary (who's there, what happens) on a card. This lets you rearrange them over and over. You can also replace any card containing any scene which doesn't work, or which doesn't have to be there.

    Get the cards in the perfect order and write the whole thing over again.

  3. I really hate writing outlines, but that is what i would suggest for you. Otherwise you can make a time line of your story, i use both along with numerous notes and character profiles. But i don't think the last two can help you much with organization.
