How do i participate in community service?

i am a sophomore in high school and i really want to do community service. i heard that colleges really expect that in a student. what is the minimum hour required to successful satisfy the colleges in which i will be applying to 2 years from now.

the more hours you have, the more colleges like you. it depends on your school the minumum you need. my school in CA was 30 hours and i completed 240 and was able to get into Cal State Fullerton, San Marcos, and SDSU (only places I applied to), and now  I attend SDSU. You can do a ton of hours for the YMCA, your church, elementary school, etc. maybe beach clean ups if you are near a beach. stuff like that.
