I just lift her up and hold her in my arms and stroke her.

Is there a better or more comforting way?

  1. Guinea pigs like it when you tickle their pickle.

  2. Yes, put her on a towel in your lap so she feels  secure and supported. Make Lap Time into Treat Time, and feed her her daily veggies while you're sitting petting her and watching TV or whatever. It's a good time also to teach her to accept having you handle her feet, because they need their nail trimmed. Get a good cat nail trimmer from the pet store and start by trimming one nail at a time. Once she's learned that you handle her every day (during your favorite TV show!), she'll get really excited about Lap Time! You can use a very soft brush to brush her, too.

They never do really like being carried or held in the air. They feel much more secure when on a flat surface like the floor, your lap, the couch, etc. Guinea pigs don't hug each other, so hugging and squeezing her by your face is not going to feel safe and comfortable to her, probably ever. Remember that they are a prey animal and they know that they're likely to be somebody's lunch! So, go slow, be gentle, keep her feeling safe. Soon she'll start to whistle when she knows Lap Time is coming! Mine used to whistle to me when she heard my car drive into the driveway! ;-)

You sound like a really thoughtful owner. She's lucky to have you!

  3. I would suggest setting her on a folded up towel....it will better support all her feet and help keep p**p off you.

  4. when u pick it up pick it up with both hands and when holding it hold it by its bell with one hand and u can pet it with the other

  5. dont force him into your hands.

Just stick them next to him and if he wants to he'll climb on them

  6. hold with both hands and(she'll feel safer)     stroke her down her back
