  1. just pick up by its stomach or in the middle part

you're not scared to pick up your pet snake are you?

  2. Try slowly putting your hand in and see if the snake will climb up on its own. Be a little patient about it. I know, it sounds obvious, but with my Jungle Carpet Python if I try to grab her she'll wrap her tail around something so I can't pick her up, but if I just stop and take it slow she will gladly slither up my arm.

Otherwise, gently and slowly slip your fingers under about the middle of the snake and lift. Simple as that. I also suggest that once you have your snake out of the cage support it with both hands while it explores, no matter its size. Once it's accustomed to handling it's not necessary, but as a little one you want to be sure not too move too fast around it or let part of it 'drop', you always want to support it completely.

  4. Just don't pick it up by the head or the tip of the tail.  Lifting it by any other part is fine, as long as it hasn't eaten recently.

  5. Okay Terryy S... I'm still leaking coffee outta my nose!  I nearly strangled while I laughed, watching that link!  Too funny!  I had one that size down my blouse, so I know how the guy feels! :))  Burms are great snakes.  (ADD - matter of fact, it's the very same snake around my neck in the pic I'm trying to get on my 360 so I can use it here for my avatar.)

Anyway, as for the question... Are you a bit afraid of your snake, or just concerned, and not wanting to hurt it?

Most bites/strikes occur when owners confuse a snake.  Don't hesitate about picking the snake up.  Don't move slowly, and give the snake too much time to think about it.  Just reach in, and grasp the snake loosely somewhere near the middle, slide your fingertips under, and lift, move the other hand around to help support the weight of the back end of the snake, so he's not just dangling there.  Voila~!

I hope this has been helpful, and enjoy your new pet.
