  1. see if you can find one at petfinder.com but make SURE that is what you want and that you will be able to care for it

if you cant find one local at petfinder.com then try to find a local breeder

  2. Please get your gerbil a same s*x cage mate, preferably one who it already lives with, from the same litter.

They are social animals and should always be kept in pairs.

Kept alone they have shorter lifespans and aren't quite as clean- which isn't to say you should ever bathe them with water. But I'm sure you knew that. ;]

Try PetFinder.com to find gerbils in need of a home in your area. They are in need and are already used to human interaction. Sometimes they even come with their own cage and toys.

If not there, check CraigsList.org. Many families are not ready for the attention gerbils need and are willing to give them away for free, with food, cage, and toys.

If not there either, try and find a breeder in your area.

The American Gerbil Society website has great resources.

Your last choice would be a pet store such as PetSmart.

I highly recommend avoiding PetCo, since they are known for selling sick animals- myself having encountered this first hand with a pair of mice some time ago.

    Hope I helped. :]

  3. Try not to buy from stores, or try to get on off craigslist or a good breeder, or from a friend.

If so try Petco/Petsmart, most locally owned pet stores are not healthy envoironment wise, and have poorly/inbred animals

So good luck with your hamsters. :]

  4. Dont go to that pppy mill place >:o
