  1. Hi,

No matter what Hotel you are staying at you can make arrangements for the Chichen Itiz tour. This will be an all day trip that will depart your hotel around 7am. you'll return late in the afternoon. The trip is well worth it. I'm planning a return trip soon. The only down side is you can no longer climb to the top of El Castillo it's now closed. However, there is a lot to see and it will take you all day.

    Enjoy

  2. Check with your travel agent or the conceriere at your hotel. It is just a short ferry ride then head for Chichn Itiz. Try it by horseback.awesome...

  3. If your on a cruise ship u may not have enough time. we r going in 2 weeks and only have 9 hours in port. once u get to cozumel u can take the ferry over (about 45 minutes) to playa carmen or cancun. u then either rent a car, or take a bus ride. if u don't have any time restraints u should b able to have a wonderful day!!! enjoy it for me. i had planned on going to kohunlich in costa maya. now, thanks to dean we probably won't get to see it this time. ur best bet is to check out the cozumel web site. from there check out tours. good luck!! have fun!!

  4. rhino72032 has a good answer the only thing I can add would be the drive time. It would be about 3 hours to Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen. (via Hy 307 north towards Cancun then the 180 toll road (180 Cuota), take the toll road. The 180 free road  (180 Libre) would make the trip about 4 to 5 hours). It's a pretty straight forward drive on modern highways but tour busses are good option too.

Someone also mentioned about time constraints due to cruise ship time in port. If this is an issue you might want to consider renting a car and going to Ek Balam, a little more than 2 hours from PDC, or Tulum would be about an hour but Chichen Itza is the most impressive of the sites I've named so if you can get there, it's worth the effort.

  5. Chichen itza is a really cool place to go.  I have been there.  However, it is allot of walking and gets very hot on the excursion.  Your resort will be able to give the specifics with the ferry and set everything up for you.

Another great place to go in Playa del Carmen, which is where the ferry drops you off is to go to Xel Ha.  There is tons of stuff to do there and great snorkling.  You will see some amazing fish and will never be bored because there is so much to do in a day.

  6. The people at the front desk of your hotel should be able to arrange it.  You can't drive there.  Flying is expensive.  You may have to be on the 5am ferry to Playa del Carmen to connect with a tour bus going to Chichen Itza.  Here's the ferry schedule:

Cozumel to Playa del Carmen Ferry - daily

    5:00am, 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, 12:00am

    2:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 8:00pm, 10:00pm

Playa del Carmen to Cozumel Ferry - daily

    6:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am,

    1:00pm, 3:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm, 9:00pm, 11:00pm

If you can't hook up with a tour bus, then Playa del Carmen has rental cars.  I can't remember the drive time, because the last time I drove that route, I visited Chichen Itza, spent the night in Piste, then drove to Coba, spent some time there, then went on to Puerto Adventuras.

If you've never driven in Mexico before, there are two rules:

    (1) expect speed bumps (topes) before and after every village you drive through

    (2) never drive at night--you will hit things (cows, burros, trucks driving with no lights)
