How do i play ps3 games?

do i just have to pop and play like the ps2?why do people talk about the installation thing like gta 4 stops and after that it freezes or has black screen or freeze in the intro video?

--if I have the 2.42 update of my ps3,i wont need the update for gta 4 if i just play it offline right?

--does the updates happen to all ps3 games?

--is gta 4 the only game thats having problems?

just plug it in and play. you can find the game under the controller icon.

updates you get when you just turn on your ps3 are for the ps3 not the games. 2.42 is an update to get rid of the bugs from 2.41, and does not do anything to gta. the reason why gta 4 was freeze was because of an update for the ps3. it is now fixed, with updates for the ps3. some games require you to install the game the reason for this is because if you install it cuts down on load time and makes the game run smoother so it's a good thing to install the game. updates only happen to game when the devolpers want to add something to the game. so theres nothing to worry about

Yes, you just put the disc in and select it at the menu. Installation only happens in some games. Some data is stored to the hard drive for faster load times. The installation will start after the game has been booted up (if it requires it).

The 2.42 update is only for Sony's firmware. All game updates have to be downloaded separately. If your PS3 is plugged into the internet it will notify you of any required updates when you start up the game.

Updates happen pretty often but not all games need them. Most of the time they are just for online play, and if you aren't online with the PS3 you obviously don't play online.

Yes, GTA IV was really the only game to have problems like that. I think it was blown out of proportion a little too. I only had the game freeze on me twice and it never happened again (and that was before the patch).

If you have internet I would definitley suggest you plug the PS3 into it though. Online gaming is half the experience.
