I have a 3 1/2 yr old who will use the bathroom to go # 1 but not #2. I have 3 other children at home that consume alot of my time. One of them being a 7 month old. I have tried everything I can think of. rewards, stickers and etc. and nothing seems to work. I am also in the process of potty training my 2 1/2 yr old too. but it's getting to the point where i am getting frustrated. My oldest was potty trained by the age of 3. anyone have any type of advice to help me out???? thanks!!!

  1. Some youngsters just don't care and are too stubborn to ever take off their diapers, pull-ups, etc. You can sit there and tell them they are peeing themselves and people will laugh, or it won't make them a big girl/boy. They don't care. Potty training is such a hard thing to do. I know each child differs at what age they stray away from the diapers and use the toilet. Every child is different, so different methods may not work. My best suggestion for you is to keep talking to your child. Keep placing them on their little toilet and just work with them. I know my niece got this cool little toilet that every time she peed, it would make noise or sing. It also came with a book about potty training that had pictures and illustrations about little children going on the potty. I think this is very frustrating, but will come and then it will all work out. Best of luck.

EDIT: I'm almost positive the toilet my niece used to practice potty training that played music was called Potty Power.

  2. my little girl was hard to potty train too. i just hide the diapers and told her we dont have anymore so you have to go on toilet. dont know if that was any help you can try it.

  3. I say go 'cold turkey' and use underwear.  After a few accidents your 3 1/2 year old will NOT enjoy this.  I used pull ups too but I KNOW it makes kids lazy about potty training.  I dried every reward possible with my daughter and the ONE thing that got her to cooperate were Jelly Bellys.  I told her if she used the potty she would get 3 Jelly Bellys and she could tell me which colors she wanted.  It was like magic, she wanted those jelly beans so bad. Plus I also got her used to brushing her teeth because I made her brush after she ate them.

  4. sounds like the child is already a few steps ahead of you!!!  continue what you're doing, be patient, and let the child's body continue to mature.  no rewards necessary!  NEVER compare children.

  5. Try having your 3 1/2 year old wear "big kid undies" all the time.  No diapers, no pull ups.  Maybe take them to the store and let them pick out some with characters they like (dora the explorer, blue from blues clues, etc.) and tell them, for example, you have to big a big kid, and keep dora dry and clean!  Be sure to celebrate every time they use the potty for #1 or #2.  Hope this helps :)

  6. Good god, niki, get some help from family or friends and get them all in the bathroom at the same time to go potty. Just line up those little potties and tell them all to pee and poo poo. Lord help you with two at the same time and a 7 month old.
