  1. 9 ball is a pretty good solo game.  It's helpful to learn speed and angles, because you know which ball you have to hit next.

I'm re-learning to play 8-ball for the local APA, and I've found that 9 ball is helping me out a lot.

also, learning trick shots is a good way to learn speed (my biggest weakness, I almost always hit too hard.)

I've noticed a lot of high level pool playes practice this specific shot:

Place an object ball near a corner pocket, at about a 45 deg angle.

Place the cue so that it's in line with the object ball and pocket it.

Now place the cue farther away on the same line.  Keep doing this.

  2. try rotation shoot the balls in order by number like playing 9 ball this will help improve Q ball control and position play,or you could play straight pool this will help your shooting and offense play.

  3. a lot of the time i just roll the balls on the table or just set up a rack and go at it ..to make it intersting play opposite handed..as a challenge to play alone

  4. I  break  and try to make say all the stripes in without making a slop shot then move to solid what ever goes in on the break start with them . it helps me .

  5. I play just like there are two people playing. I have a table at my house and I have to play by myself the majority of the time

  6. Play as both players.. I was very bad at cushion shots, so I played games where I had to hit a cushion before the ball or hit the ball off a cushion to pocket it. After a while I started to improve. Also try to practise specific shots (especially hard ones) over and over as you will get better that way. Don't bother with trick shots, they look good but very few of them will help your game, they will just waste your time and invariably fail in front of particularly hot chicks you're trying to impress! :D Or worse you could damage the wood or the cover of the table..
