How do i prepare my fish tank for saltwater fish?

I went to the pet store the other day hoping to buy some clown fish but the guy there said that i couldnt put the fish in the fish tank the same day i got them. He said i had to put the salt and other stuff in a couple days before. what else do i need besides salt? how many days do i have to wait? please help and thanks alot!

Salt, conditioner/dechlor all in and running with heater and filter.  Cycle, cycle cycle.

No you cannot put the fish in the tank the same day or even in the same week.

Actually I wouldn't in the same month.  You need to get your salinity properly set and the tank starting on its cycle.  Remember no carbon filters.

Patience in setting up your tank will pay of big in the long run.
