I'm showing my rabbit lily a dwarf lop in a local horticultural show. She is entered in the bonny rodent class an best conditioned pet.

What do i need to do to make her look her best? I preferably don't want to bath her as i heard it can induce shock, She looks pretty clean but her fur on her back feet looks a bit grubby.

Please put any suggestions!

Thank you!

  2. If you take good care of your rabbit throughout the year, there really isn't much you have to do to condition them for a show. But here are a few ideas that may help:

    1. Feeding rolled oats on top of their rabbit pellets daily (for at least a week before the show) conditions their fur and makes it sleek and shiny. Black oil sunflower seeds work the same way.

    2. Brush her coat over a few times with a slicker brush. You don't want to do it too often, or it will ruin the density of her coat. But a quick once-over before the show should be fine.

    3. Clip her nails. You want your rabbit to appear well-groomed, which will not happen if her nails are curling out too far beyond her foot.

    4. If she has any dirty spots, you can spot-clean with vinegar and rinse with water.

    5. Or, on WHITE RABBITS ONLY, if the vinegar is not not strong enough to remove stains, you can try using hydrogen peroxide for spot cleaning. Keep in mind that this will BLEACH rabbit fur, as it does to human hair, so DO NOT use this method on a colored rabbit that you're planning to show soon. Also, peroxide tends to dry out the hair, so it's best to use a week or two before the show so that you allow for some of the natural oils in their fur to come back in.

    I hope this helps!
