How do i produce acoustic guitar tones with my amp?

Question

i have a fender strat sqiuer guitar(im learning) with the sqiuer amp completely factory pickups and everything only thing changed from the box is strings and my grandpa is teaching me to play with an acoustic guitar so how can i make my electric guitar sound exactly like his acoustic guitar (not tuning) the same tone can i do this without buying a new amp or acoustic guitar? if so how would i match it perfectly to sound like his martin HD-28 Herringbone?

The only thing that sounds like a Martin, is another Martin.  Seriously, they ring like no other.  

Why not just pop for a decent sounding acoustic and put a pick up on it?

I've found that the cloesest I can get to an acoustic sound with my guitar (same setup as yours) is to switch the switch all the way to treble.

You're not gonna be able to have it sound just like his unless you buy a guitar just like his though...

haw-haw! Easy one. a guitar pedal! but heres the problem - to get that clear pitch quality, you're gunna have to buy a REALLY EXPENSIVE pedal. my teacher let me borrow his for a week once... he said it cost him $350!!! No lie. it had the best settings on it... like 30 settings! but it did have some settings like an acoustic. really awesome! good luck! and if you are like, "oh, this Red Popsicle idiot didn't listen to my question... I said AMP!" then you are sadly mistaken. for the pedal I was talking about, i had 2 cords. guitar --> cord --> pedal --> cord --> amp. so it was all hooked up to the amp. that means it comes out the amp! sorry if thats not what you were looking for! i tried... again, good luck!

you can't.  end of story.  it wont work.  you can't even make a cheap acoustic or an expensive electric sound like a good acoustic especially of that quality.  what you can do to make your guitar sound kind of acoustic ish is spend around 100 dollars on the boss ac-3 acoustic simulator pedal.  not exactly the same, but it does a good job.  by the way, not to bash, but your guitar kind of sucks, and it probably doesnt even sound like an electric.  i think that maybe you should put a real investment into a guitar that you will want to play because it sounds so good.  i saved up my working money for a long time to invest in a 300 dollar schecter as my first guitar because I knew that I needed a good guitar that wouldn't fail on me if I really wanted to play, even as a hobby.

you could also jsut get an acoustic.  ibanez, fender, and martin make good cheap ones.  so does taylor

in addition to what julie said, also put it on your neck pickup or middle pickup

no that amp will not produce a stunning acoustic sound, believe me the boss pedal is the best.  line 6's sound fine i guess, but once you get better you'll regret getting it as the tone is very...synthetic

edit@takboy: okay its true that some people wil lplay their squiers all their life, i do have professional friends that have, but you are talking about good tone, which is not squier's strong point.  however, the squiers that tak boy is talking have would be made in japan in the 1980s, and these squiers are actually considered vintage and are sold on ebay for upwards of 800 dollars sometimes.  so.............yeah.  if you want proof just look up stratocasters from the 80s MIJ (made in japan) or squier JV (japanese vintage).  so that's probably not the best parallel to draw.  If you really think you should get it thoguh, that line6 amp is a good alternative to your squier amp.  if its that or nothing, i'd say get that little line6, but please take a look at those pedals man.

you cant match the guitar you have to the great martin guitar he has.  you need to go and get an acoustic or a new amp, exactly what u didnt want to hear right, well its cool cause im in the same condition here im out to get an electric now though.  so good luck. man but it wouldnt work that way.

I agree with Megaman101. You're not going to get a really good acoustic sound like that from a cheap Squire (which is not really made by Fender!!). When starting guitar, think of it as an investment. Something that's probably going to outlast you. For example, my first guitar was a really good American made Fender acoustic (that I cannot, for the life of me, remember the model), my second guitar was a Fender American HSS Strat. You see where I'm going with this? But if that really is all you have to work with, if you only plan on using the amp, keep the bass high, the treble a little bit lower than mid setting, and the middle about in the middle. The tone setting on your guitar should be really low.

There's no way it can sound exactly the same. But to make it similar, put the bass almost all the way up and the treble a few notches past halfway. Keep the medium down. It should sound nice. Keep the tone on your guitar almost all the way down.

Kid, I will tell you right now that I bought a Squier Bullet for my son about 25 yrs ago because it was cheap and he was just a beginner. Now he is married with kids and STILL plays the heck out of that cheap little guitar. He wants to put new pick ups and tuners in it now but it still plays fine. Some types of music goes well on electric guitars others on acoustic. If you can't make up your mind and you have a lot of money to spend, I would recommend either an Ovation VXT or a Taylor T5. Both are hybrids.

In the meantime, they sell cheap Martin spin offs all over the place, that are fine to learn on before dropping the big bucks into a real Martin. Good luck and keep it fun.

The brand, Boss, puts out some good foot switches that can simulate acoustic sounds through a standard electric guitar amplifier.

i'll tell you one thing from experience, you will never get an acoustic sound from an electric guitar (unless you will spend thousands). but there is still hope! maybe, doubtfully but maybe your guitar is good enough to make a really good clean tone. alot of times  you can actually have a cleaner sound than an acoustic guitar. also even if you have the most expensive equipment you would NEVER make an electric guitar sound like a martin of any kind. sorry to break it to you try setting trebble to 9 and bass to 5,6, or 7. that will be probably the cleanest sound you'll get, and that switch on your guitar try setting it to the middle IDK about single pickups too much though
