with Vista. People have been saying there is no difference, but when i click "save as" there is no option for "tools."

And if there is a tools option, and i'm just being blind and missing it, where is it?

When I open the save as box there is the box at the top that says, "My documents, search, etc" and then right below it it says, "Organize, View, New Folder." but not tools.

I could really use some help! Thanks!

  1. I only have Word 2003, but you can restrict editing, etc by going

Tools > Protect Document > then configuring the options before you go into the "save file" functions. Try clicking on the little squares at the bottom of the 'ribbons' if you're using Word 2007, they expand the ribbons out into full menus.

If you want to protect it from unauthorised viewing (because bear in mind that Word's protection takes about ten minutes to break with one of many tools you can get from the web)... then just zip it or rar it up and put a strong password on it (the zip or rar archive, in the options as you're 'adding your file to the archive'). That's industrial-strength security and no-one will be able to look at it until it's unpacked. Depending on how strong your password is, of course.

  2. Under the drop down menus, choose the "tools" option, then General Options and you're good to go.

  3. With Word 2007

Office Button on the extreme left > Prepare>Select what you want to do...

  4. In Word 2002 (XP), the Tools option is at the top of the dialog box, but in Word 2007 (Vista), it's down next to the Save button.

After clicking it, select General Options to get to the actual protection dialog box.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Do you have Microsoft Office 2007? I have an earlier version that I loaded on it (i think 2000) and I can find it ok. I have never known that you can do that though! Very interesting.

  6. Word 2007:

Click the Office Button, then save as, then tools, then general options. There you will see the password options.

    Word 2003:

    File, Save, Tools, Securityoptions
