I recently bought a wireless router and it works fine http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=565

But the problem is it can be used within 200meters of the router and upto 32 computers can be connected so the whole street can access this since it doesnt have a password

How can i put a password on it????

  1. read the manual. also it should have came up in the set up. if not, find the device on ur computer. pull it up. and then it should be self-explanatory.

  2. You need to use WEP or preferably WPA encryption. A password, while a good idea, only protects people from entering into your router's config. page.

  3. just download Network Magic....

    http://networkmagic.com/download/

logon to your wireless network on your computer, then after you've installed network magic just go to network magic, click on secure your wireless network or something similar to that... then enter your wireless router login details and then it will ask you to setup a network key, WEP is a good password key and is ok to secure a basic network. If you want you can use WPA it is much stronger protection.

  4. I'd recommend using either a sticky note and attaching it to the router or writing directly on the router using a permanent marker.  I DO NOT recommend engraving it on using a chisel and sledge hammer.  I tried this once and it was not a pretty sight.
