  1. Tampons are dry wads of material you are inserting into a moist delicate part of your body, it is normal for them to be difficult to insert because of the friction they cause and because they have no give in them so the vaginal muscles can push against them making them difficult to insert – this is particularly true if using applicators as these are not as hands-on that make the whole thing more difficult (not to mention the environmental impact).

    It is down to being relaxed, when you tense up your vaginal muscles tense up, thus making insertion difficult – it’s the same as with penetrative s*x, a lot of girls say it is painful the first time, which is pure myth, they only say this because they are not educated on how their body works. Think about insertion of menstrual products the same as insertion of a p***s or s*x toy, when aroused you are not only relaxed but your v****a becomes lubricated and doubles in size making penetration possible – basically, m********e! Wait until your flow is full, if you need to use lubricant like KY jelly or olive oil, and stay relaxed.

    We in women’s health have a saying;

    “Friends don’t let friends use tampons!”

    Tampons carry huge health risks because they prevent normal vaginal function, give bacteria a place to multiply and contain chemicals and bleaches – see tampon health web site for more information http://www.spotsite.org – as such they cause vaginal infections, increased menstrual flow, increased menstrual cramps, vaginal splitting, vaginal ulceration, vaginal irritation, endometriosis, cancer and toxic shock syndrome. As well as hugely harmful and unhygienic they are inconvenient, uncomfortable, unreliable, expensive, and environmentally harmful. There is no reason to put yourself at risk or torture yourself trying to use products such as these when there are far better options available for you, forget what your friends use, who says you have to do what they all do and what make you want to let them control what you do with your body? You’re old enough to take responsibility for your own body by making choices that are best for you.

    If you do stick to tampons at least reduce your risk;

    •Buy organic tampons such as Natracare http://www.natracare.com

    •Change your tampons every 4-6 hours.

    •Never use tampons when not menstruating.

    •Never use tampons when you go to bed.

    •Change absorbency to match your flow on a daily basis.

    •Always use the lowest absorbency possible.

    •Understand health risks so you can spot health problems.

    I would highly recommend you use menstrual cups, these are safer, cleaner, cheaper, greener, far more convenient, more comfortable and easier to use than tampons – plus they have money back guarantees so you would have nothing to loose if they are not for you. I’d recommend Ladycup http://www.ladycup.com as these are the smallest and most flexible brand available and smaller than most tampons so easier to insert.

    You don't need to use tampons to go swimming, there are plenty of other options you could use such as sponges, cloth pads, period belts, padded panties, menstrual cups, softcups, diaphragms - the only options you cannot use for swimming are commercial pads or organic pads as they will go soggy and unstuck in the water, any other option is fine. In fact again menstrual cups or softcups are better as they can be left in for up to 12 hours, they do not leak, they don't absorb pool water, they don't cause cramps and they have nothing showing on the outside of the body - thus better than tampons for swimming.

  2. read the instructions

  3. are you sure you're putting it in the right spot? Make sure you are not aiming for the belly button; that is not the v****a.

  4. This may sound a little crazy, but the box has a set of instructions.  If you follow it word for word you should be fine.
