How do i put an mpg4 file onto my itunes?

i've converted the dvd into an mpg4 file. on itunes i went onto tv shows> file>import, found the mpg4 file, clicked open, but nothing happened. what am i doing wrong?

There are some useful guides about how to rip DVD to iTunes and convert videos and TV shows to iTunes for iPod, iPhone, etc, it works well for all the Windows and Mac OS users.
