  1. Ad Jacro - wrong answer...

Your camcorder is miniDV camcorder and you do NOT need any 3rd party software, all you need is windows and Firewire port in your computer. You COULD want and use better software but you do not have to.

You really MUST use firewire connection though. USB works badly, slowly and you do need special drivers.

Firewire drivers are part of both Widnows XP and Vista and they are universal = work with ANY miniDV camcorder (incl. your one).

If the only cables you have are USB, forget them. Go on eBay and for +- $10 get Firewire cable or combo Firewire cable + card if your computer does not have Firewire port.

Then connect your camcorder, turn it on (in play mode) and windows will recognize it automatically. Open Windows Movie Maker (part of every windows), navigate to Capture section, choose your cam from the list in pull down menu as "Video source" and then play the tape and capture it. MiniDV file is huge = cca 13 GB for one hour tape. It is AVI file and you need to use some software (you CAN use Windows Movie Maker again, although I prefer Ulead Video Studio... there are MANY such programs) to convert it into 4.5 GB mpeg2 file to be burned as DVD.

    Have fun
