  1. you need a cotterless crank extractor tool (relaitively cheap)

to take off your old crank, then simply fit your new crank arms with a socket wrench, use some thread glue to make sure the nuts dont work themselves loose.

i your changing the spindle too it's usually just a notched threaded ring that needs tapping loose and a 15-16 mm spanner to undo the bearing cup.

  2. The first thing you need to consider is if the spindle length is correct for a fixed gear.  When the spindle is installed and the crank and chainring attached, you should be able to hang a chain from the crank ring and have it line up with the cog on your rear wheel.  Very important.  Otherwise you will be running the chain at an angle which will cause friction which will make it harder to pedal and reduce the life of the chain, chainring, and cog.

Assuming this is all correct, then you need to remove the old crank (if one exists).  Do this by removing/unscrewing the dust cap and removing the s***w holding the crank arm to the spindle.  s***w in the outer part of the crank extractor (you'll have to get one of these).  You then s***w in the bolt part into the extractor and the crank will pop off the old spindle.

If you are using the existing cups (these are the two pieces on either side of the bottom bracket that hold the spindle and bearings to the frame), you only need to remove the one on the left hand side (the one with a lock ring).  This will allow you to adjust the bottom bracket to properly fit your spindle after installing it.  Remove the old spindle and bearings.

Check the bearings to see if they need to be replaced.  If they don't, clean them and clean the cups.  Tip the bicycle on it's right hand side and lubricate the cup that is in the frame. Lubricate and install the bearings or bearing ring on that side then place the new spindle through hole on the right hand cup.

The next step can be done without flipping the frame over if you are using a bearing ring.  Lubricate the spindle, the bearing ring, and the left hand cup.  You may also want to lubricate the threads of the cup or place some locktite on it before installing it.  Place the bearing ring on the spindle.  Guide the left hand cup over and down the spindle and start s******g it into the frame.  Do not over tighten!  This can cause groves in the cups and damage the bearings.  Check the spindle as you s***w in the cup.  It is properly installed when it turns freely without moving from side to side.  When this occurs, install the lock ring on the left hand cup.  When tightening the lock ring, make sure the cup does not further s***w into the frame.  Do this by holding the cup still with the proper tool while tightening the lock ring with a pin wrench.

Now you need to attach the crank arms.  This is the easy part.    Place the crank arm onto the spindle and push it towards the frame.  s***w the crank arm securely into place and install the dust cap.  Do the same for the other side making sure they face opposite directions.  You should be set after that!

If you are using new cups it's all pretty much the same, you just need to s***w in the right hand up first.

You will need the following tools:

    Crank extractor

    Bottom bracket tools (these vary)

Pin wrench (these vary as well)

    Lubricant (bearing grease)

    Possibly a socket set

I've done it with only a crank extractor, a socket set, and some wrenches, but really you should use the proper tools.

  3. what kind of cranks is it

on a fixed gear its kind of hard  trust me . im 13 but ive worked on all bikes
