How do i "tag" an animal?

Im starting to go hunting and i was wondering how would i "tag" a deer?

I just wrap it around one of the antlers.

well depends what your tagging i know that is its a male you put your seal around the antler and fill out the tag on a female you put it through the ear if im not mistaken.

My husband said, "It doesn't matter as long as the deer is tagged.  The ear is always a good spot."  Especially if you're gonna keep the antlers.

It varies from state to state, but the majority will accept it if you wrap the tag around the base of the antlers and wire it strongly in place with the supplied wires. On a non antlered animal, I find it best to put a slit in the animals ear, use the supplied wire and attach the tag there, tucking it down inside the ear so it does not get torn off. Be sure to cut the notch on the tag that corresponds with the date of harvest and attach it as soon as you have verified the animal is dead (nothing more humiliating than a stunned animal getting up and running off with your tag attached!!). Some states you just fill the tag out in black ink instead of cutting the day/date out.
