  1. Your question could be answered a number of ways.  You need to provide more information like what size, year and if it has power trim/tilt.

  2. On older Mercs with a remote throttle/shift lever, the motor had to be in gear (Either F or R) to tilt.  Otherwise, look for a little lever that locks the tilt.  Usually located close to the transom clamps on smaller motors, says something like "tilt/lock" on it.  If you find that, a word of advise is to leave it "unlocked" when running the engine.  If you hit something, the motor will "kick up" rather than be solid and may help reduce the damage done.

  3. what do you mean, if it's the leg, there will be a little lever on the side of the leg, just push it down, then pull the engine up by the top of the couling you will find a couple of spots it will click into p[lace, for shallow drive and fully raised, if it's for the trim, look down the behind the leg, and you will see on the mount a rod going through both sides with a few holes on the mount, the lower you set it will bring the bow down, higher bow up, just trim it for the wight and the conditions you are in, if you want to raise the engine on the transom, use a block under the mount on top of the transom, dont raise it too high, and put bolts through the mount holes through the transom, when you tighten the mount screws, tie both handles together by a piece of wire, they work loose when the engine runs, you will have a big surprise one day if you dont, stick it in reverse and give it a heap of revs, and watch the engine jump off the back, i have seen it happen heaps of times, i was a commercial fisherman for 16 years, and we used dorys with outboards, and i used to allways tell my crew to make the mount screws were tight and wired, but some forgot, and a couple had the motor jump off, never lost one though, another tip chain the engine from the handle to a strong point on the transom, will save you heaps of hassles, a 2 stroke is easy to get going after it has been in the water, 4 strokes will stuff your whole week, or make you broke if you dont know what to do to get it going again
