i recently moved and am renting a room. the homeowner says all i need to do is put in a cable box and i'll have t.v. same for internet, except i'll need a cable modem. i was wondering why do i need the box at all. i use to be able to just plug the cable straight in and it would work fine. by the way its time warner not directv. so all i have to do is buy any cable box and any cable modem and i'll be fine?

  1. have to pay for cable service in that room , and cable box cannpt just be plugged in and then it works it has to be sent a signal by a customer service rep because unplugged boxes arent able to recieve updates due to it not being plugged in therefore, u must call timewarner and set up that additional box which in my area is 10.15 a month nyc )

  2. just plug the cable into your TV, you don't absolutely need a cable box.
