How do i recover after a power failure or surge?

"i recently moved my computer from one room to another and i just held the power button in to shut it down.when i plugged it back in it just keeps restarting and wont boot up.is there anything else i can do besides wiping out the hard drive"

  1. Try F8 when the computer starts up... Just keep hitting the key every 2 seconds till you get a windows menu and choose "last know good configuration" If this doesnt work you may be looking at a file system error that may require a windows boot cd (installation cd) with recovery console and a chkdsk /r command to fix it..

  2. Reset it. Desk top just unplug it from wall and hold the power switch down for 20 sec's. For a laptop, unplug it from the wall, take the battery out, hold the power switch down for 20 sec. leave the battery out, plug it back into the wall and turn it on. Sometimes it's a warning that your motherboard is failing.

  3. You're motherboard is fried, sorry to say but your computer is broken and cannot be fixed.

  4. usually the pc recover itself on your next start up,,make sure there is no cd in your cd rom drive no usb thumb attach to your pc ,start again unless you dropped it,,,or your connection is loose,
