hi aditya, if you operate your profession as an individual you do not have to be registered. but if you have a firm and wish to operate as a complete office then you have to be resistered with the excise dept for service tax.

It is necessary to register under the Shops & Establishment Act, with supportives like Rent receipt or ownership data, as applicable, even if U donot engage a single servant. For this you have to approach the local Municipal office and pay a certain nominal fee.
