  1. if you have replaced your dsl modem with another one you will need to use your explorer and type in the IP address provided below the modem or somewhere on the new modem to gain access to the configuration page. you need to enter your login and password info into the new modem so that it can authenticate to the DSL line. YOu can get all the info from your old modem and transfer that info to the new modem.

You will need to connect to the old modem first by also entering the configuration setup IP address that is given below the modem.

  2. Try this page for instructions.

    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/14083

  3. I just upgraded too  from a 1701HG to a 2701HG-B

    1) plug it in and let it boot up

    2) press the pin hole button in the back called "RESET" it will reset to factory setting.

    3) log on to 192.168.1.254 and click on setup (on right side)

    4) it will ask for you if you are a new user or an existing user, since you are not a NEW user click the other.

    5) It will ask you for you user account (e-mail ) and the activation code to have the box configured (click on the first on that is already checked).

    6) have a password for the box that is different than the user password.

after all this you should get a all green lights

If you remember the installation for the old 2wire,  well it the same as for the new box (192.168.1.254)

  4. you have to download or install from a cd the drivers for usb. unless you connecting ethernet, then you should just be able to plug and play. one of the ports could be bad on the modem so try all ports. also try another ethernet cord. if not, maybe thats why your friend sold it to you cause it doesn't work.
