How do i remove a headunit out of a 1999 cougar?

You must use the proper Ford removal tool that inserts in either end of the factory stereo.  If it is aftermarket it will vary on how it was installed but you will more than likely have to remove the bezel surrounding it.

If it is stock you should have four holes, two on the left and two on the right and there are hooks that you can buy for ~$6.00 from any local auto store.  You just need to push them in, squeeze, and pull out.
