Question:

How do i remove furniture glue?

I am actually trying to take apart an old entertainment unit which has wood glue in the tongue and groove style joints, making for a very difficult dismantle. It needs to go up some unpleasantly narrow stairs, so it must come apart. What is the best way to disolve the glue so that i can pull the furniture into pieces without damaging the wood too much?

  1. Well taking it apart is probley not the best idea. But you could try goo gone or a heavy duty adhisive dessolver. The problem is that anything strong enough will probley damage the material the center is made from

  2. If you really need to take the unit apart to move it, take a heat gun and heat up the joint(s) that you want to come apart.  It'll soften the glue to where you can pull it apart.  Don't leave the gun in one spot....you'll damage the finish.  Keep it moving at all times....you can move it slow, but you need to keep moving.  Once the unit is apart, scrape/sand the old glue off, taking care not to remove too much wood (you don't want the joint to be loose), and after you have it in place, reglue the joints and clamp it.  Once the glue cures, remove the clamps and you're good to go.
