How do i replace my lost Pink Slip for my car?

I recently used my car as a trade in but i ended up not being able to get financed for the car i wanted so the dealership gave me back my old car. I cant seem to find my Pink Slip and i now need to register my car in a new state. I originally bought the car in Texas then got deployed so my car went to california where it was re-registered there and now that im back im trying to register it again in Texas. But i was told i need the pink slip inorder to do so. Any help would be great because i cant get my car on post w/o it. Thank You in advance!

  1. Contact the Ca DMV and inquire if the car was titled in Ca or just registered. If it was titled, then you can request a duplicate title. If more than one owner is on record, all must sign the form requesting the duplicate. If you have a lien on the car, the lienholder holds the title, and you would need to go through the lender to get the title, or make arrangements for the lender to send the title to Tx.


  2. Start by contacting the dealership.  It's possible they didn't return the title when they returned your car.  If they did you will have to contact California and get a duplicate title mailed to you.
