  1. I did it and yes you can mess it up.

There is a gasket that needs to go on. The old one will be useless so you need to buy a new gasket and some gasket goop.

The piece in there is magnetized so putting it back in will be tricky. Draw a diagram or take a picture so you can see exactly how it sits back in there correctly.

The stator cover is not just a cover. The mechanism inside is actually attached to the inside of the cover so you'd be taking the cover off the bike, then disassembling the stator to remove it from the cover, all while it is still connected to the bike by a cable.

If you don't get it back in just right, the bike won't start and everytime you try to start it you'll bind the coils causing more damage. I did even worse and push started the bike which grinded the gears in there down.

It's not like replacing a hub cap so get some documentation and take your time. I ended up taking it to a shop and getting it reassembled by somebody who actually knew what they were doing and talking about.

  2. remove the screws  replace cover couldnt mess that up

  3. Remove right side fairing and lower chin fairing if necessary. Use appropriate size Allen / Hex head wrench and remove 5 screws. Remove old cover. Remove any gasket residue left from old cover. Apply gasket or sealer to new cover. Place a s***w on left and right side (of new staor cover) and align to proper holes. Start these two screws and then start the other three. As you tighten all five screws the gasket / sealer will seat. Replace fairings if removed. Allow seal to completely dry before starting. A pretty simple procedure that should take less than 30 minutes if you do not need to remove fairings. With removal of fairings, about 60-90 minutes.
