Question:

How do i replace the blower resistor on my 1996 BMW 318is?

I know its in the center of the dash... but will i have to tear a bunch of things just to get to it. if you have a step by step that would be great!! Thanks

  1. Remove left lower dashboard cover, remove  knee protector (this is the upholstered cover on the left side of the center console tunnel beneath the dashboard, and to the right of the left lower dashboard cover),

    detach connector to the resistor bank/final stage, pull out and replace

    final stage, re-attach removed components. It is a very easy job.


  2. Need to add you will need to remove the floor vent assembly for the center, there are 2 plastic pins holding it in.  Once you remove that looking at where the vent was connected, look to the left of it and up, it will be near the firewall held in with 2 torx bolts.  You will see the bottom black plastic side of it.

    It is held in by Torx bolts, so you will need a T20 bit socket - I believe, but I maybe wrong.

    Or you can go to http://www.bimmerforums.com and do a search on Final Stage blower, someone has a diy on it on an M3 but it should be the same for your 318,
