  1. Johnson  has a 3/8 hex bolt under the bottom carb which has to come out of the shifting rod> Move the shift lever forward & back U will see it> Then there is a bolt in the zink mark it so you return it to the same spot>above the prop then 4 bolts 2 on each side of the lower unit>Lower it down as it will drop fast>then there are 4 bolts in the pump look close and see if the housing is warn If so relpace it all grease the shaft going up into the power head new O ring if the is a grove for 1> assemble it as you took it apart> Change the gear oil also>

  2. I have replaced the impellar before, you have to undo the bolts that hole the bottom section of the lower unit in place, usually four bolts. drop the unit down. then in the top of that where the silver splined shaft is, the is usually 3 or 4 bolts or screws that come out , remove that cover and slide the rubber impeller off, replace it with the new one. Before you put the lower unit back on the engine, put you controls lever into forward. If you don't do this you will not be able to shift it.

    Good Luck.

  3. Go to this site; http://www.marineengine.com/ and order a pump kit. It will come with all related gaskets and a wear plate. Also order a repair manual specific to your motor (not the Seloc, they are good, but not specific to your motor).

The foot has to be removed and this is a fairly simple job if you know what you are doing. Your question says that you don't know what you are doing, thats why you need the manual.

If you decide to go on without a book, be careful. Mark the trim tab so it goes back right, and also there is a hidden bolt under the tab that has to come off.

By the book, it is well worth it.

  4. First of all check the serial number on the Johnson OB motor and order the correct parts.  Try "iboats.com" for great prices on boat parts first.  It's not difficult to drop the lower assembly, but a diagram would be a good place to start showing you what to expect.  Also, join "Iboats.com" FREE forum and get expert step by step info from all the experts who visit this site.  I contacted them when I tackled rebuilding a 1977 Mercury 150hp that wouldn't start.  With their help went step by step and now having a Great Working motor.  Dealer wanted way too much money.  Good Luck.  Bob
