You could use a price guide, but if your plan is to resell you would be better off using ebay as a reference. You rarely recieve full book value for cards, unless you get them professionally  graded, which is a whole different story.  Unless you have some HOF rookie cards you would be disappointed with what you could sell for.  All people care about today, unfortunately, are jersey swatches and autographs.  Good luck!
