  1. Re-install Windows.

  2. It's called running a System Recovery.

    Look on Dell's support site, and see what it says.

  3. Diferent suppliers call them different things but a system recovery disc is the common phrase.

  4. put the Dell operating system cd in the drive and go for it

  5. Before you use the Recovery Disc go to the Dell website and download all the latest drivers BIOS and firmware available for your machine.

    Then find out what version of BIOS is already installed and read what changes have been made if there is a later BIOS if you don't need the changes don't update the BIOS.  Same goes for any of the firmware.  Remember flashing the BIOS etc can be dangerous.  But sometimes you just need to.

    Also look at downloading any software updates for the applications that came bundled with your machine.  Depending how old the machine is you might need some Microsoft Service packs too

    Burn a DVD with all those files

    Then make the hardware changes before you use the Recovery Disk.

    Then add the Service Packs

    Then run something like Belarc Advisor and print the result.  Any missing security updates will be told and you can research them to see if you want them.

    Now De-frag at least once.

    Now backup the whole thing before you start piling on the trash again ;

  6. If you running Vista. Just run ' recovery', find it in the help and support. Then choose factory settings. Save personal files first though.

  7. Reset computer, when it comes to the black screen with options press F11. You will have options choose reset to manufacturer setting or something similar to it.
