How do i run faster?

Like what work out is most efficent. For distance runners. The most i run a day is 3 miles maybe? Meets i run 2 miles, i have enough endurance for hard things so. Yeah. whats the best way to increase my speed besides longer strides?

  1. Well there are millions of ways to work out especially for distance running. I recommend the PAAVO training program because thats what I use and I ran 4:25 for my 1600 as a freshman and 1:55 for my 800. 2 or 3 miles is nowhere near enough! Distance running requires much base work so over the summer just put in heavy mileage. Run 4 or 5 miles a day. Then have one day in your week where you run maybe 7 miles.(long run) Throw in a speed workout of 400's or 800's every now and then. Talk to some high school coaches they will know what to do.

  3. when you want to run faster you should pump your arms more. my coach told me when your running and the time when you bring your elbows back pretend you are elbowing someone right behind you. and dont try to increase your stride to much it will waste to much energy and youll get tired faster.

  4. Well, it depends on whether you are talking short or long distance. For cross country we would always have short runs during the week. (2-4 miles) then run long over the weekend. (5-8) We would also do a lot of cross training... biking, run in water... Always remember to stretch out your stride and pump your arms also.
