  1. The ants will not gross over talcum powder, you can make a ring of powder and set the food bowl in the center and the ants will not go through.

For the flies, they do not like the smell of mint, so a mint plant next to the cat's bowl will be helpful.

These remedies will not harm the cat.

  2. Unfortunately, you're going to have to do something drastic... or not.

The easiest solution would be to put your cat's bowls where the ants aren't.

If the ants are getting inside, you've got a bigger problem than what you're hinting at. If the ants really are inside, hire an exterminator to get rid of the ants. Sometimes they do not need to apply anything inside at all. Sometimes they can use a gallon of spray made just for ants around the outside and all of your ants can be completely gone in 3-7 days. Since the spray is outside, and your cat is inside, the cat won't be harmed. Just make sure your doors and windows stay closed until the application is dry.

Call around and find someone who is confident they can get rid of the ants in one treatment. However, if the ants have formed a colony inside, a light application in a few areas inside may be necessary.

For the flies, there's not a lot you can do except get a heavy-duty fly swatter, keep your door closed and make sure all of your screens are tight-fitting and in good repair.

  3. For ants salt and pepper together, ants won't cross it just do a ring of it where u put the bowl every now and then.
