How do i say 'there are many restaurants' in french?

beaucoup is ALWAYS followed by DE. yes, it should be des restaurants because restaurants is plural, but its just one of those specific bits of grammar that youve gotta learn.

After beaucoup it is ALWAYS "de" and really any quantity expressions! So it is "il y a beaucoup de restaurants." Hope this helps (:

As others have said, always beaucoup de and peu de (few). Otherwise you'd be saying something "a lot of the restaurants".
