  1. In short, you can't scan them with your Norton unless they are on your system. One thing you CAN do is set up Norton so tat it will monitor your download and alert you if it sees a problem file as it is downloaded.

  2. Hi Dark Flash,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The "Auto-Protect" feature of all Norton products is a real-time scanning engine that runs in the background and continually scan your hard drive for suspicious files, infections, etc.  As long as this feature is enabled, and your LiveUpdate is set to "Automatic" and has been running successfully, then you will be protected.

As far as not seeing the option to manually scan a file with Norton, that points to a problem with your installation of Norton. The easiest way to resolve this problem is to properly remove and then reinstall Norton AntiVirus and to then run a Full system Scan to check for infections.

    1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsg...

    2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

    3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton AntiVirus. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

    4.  When the installation is complete, open Norton AntiVirus and then click on "Run LiveUpdate" to ensure that all available updates have been applied.

    5.  While in the main Norton AntiVirus main window, select the 'Norton AntiVirus" tab at the top of the window, click on "Settings" and then "Auto-Protect" and make sure that it is enabled.

    6.  Next, click on "Tasks & Scans" and perform a "Full System Scan."

    Thank you,

    Mike

  3. Download the file and save to your desktop.  Before opening it, right click and find something along the lines of "Scan for viruses" or "Scan with Norton."

Once it's scanned you can open it.  Simply put, you can't scan things that are still on the server, they need to be downloaded locally first.

    Good luck!
