  1. There are multiple resources available for GRE test prep. For the verbal section I would highly recommend Barron's as they break the 3500 master word list into manageable sections with extremely helpful mini-quizzes. For the Quantitative any major publisher (Kaplans, The Princeton Review, etc.) will do. You might find ETS' materials beneficial; however, I was extremely disappointed with their book. Instead of reflecting the modern test requirements, ETS' 2008 booklet only includes outdated practice tests from the late 80's-early 90's.

All of these will be available at major book stores, but I would suggest checking them out from your local campus or public library.

The internet, of course, is replete with wonderful and free resources. You can download free prep software from the ETS website, and a google search will locate virtual vocab flashcards.

In preparing for the Analytical writing section, a portion that many students foolishly neglect, I found the Test Magic forums extremely helpful. There you can read and submit practice Issue and Argument essays; the free criticism in invaluable.

Just remember, a 1600 is almost impossible to receive. It's better to aim for your personal best. If you're curious, here's a breakdown of average scores: http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/pdf/g...
