How do i set my float and hook ,regarding depth of water ??

just wanting to fish ,i havent a clue how to set my float and hook ?? regarding depths of water and how far up my hook has to sit ?/ anyadvice please ??

It all depends on where you are fishing, and what you are fishing for. The three foot deep advice is not bad for leisurely lake or pond fishing.

Typically you'll want to set the float about 3 feet above your hook.  But it could vary, like if you want to catch freshwater catfish you may just want to put it a few feet further up or just go without the float altogether.

You need to know your prey and the water depth first. If its a bottom feeder like bullhead you want it to get to the bottom and if the fish hunts just above the bottom or closer to the surface and so on. Get it?
