Question:

How do i set up a local area connection on my computer?

I have a router which is wireless and wire enabled. I have two other computers plugged into the router with the same cables. I have tried everything but i cannot get my computer to connect to the internet. I have switched round the internet cables into all the different ports and even used a different cable. We have figured out that the problem is that i do not have a local area connection. Both the other computers do and connect that way. I have ran the 'create new network connection' but that does nothing. Any ideas?

  1. setting up a LAN needs filter(s) which you will plug into your BT sucket, this will enable you to connect your broadband cable as well as phone cable if you have one.Router which your broadband cable should be connected to as well as your ethernet cable notably yellow in colour, and connect that cable to the ethernet port at the back of your computer.Make sure you plug in filter(s) in every available BT socket(s) in your home.Make sure you connect the power cable that came with your router, once done you will need to activate the router, verify all the link status lights are green, now click start>control>new  connection wizard and follow the wizard to a successful connection. Before i go i will urge you to use the manual documentation that was given to you by your ISP

  2. Steps First what you need to do is if you're going to have internet for your LAN you need to set up your modem. (Optional)

Now what you need to do is if you're adding internet is hook up your router to your modem by taking the ethernet cable from the modem and placing the other end into the routers WAN slot. Make sure that everything is hooked up including power and all. (Only for Internet)

Now steps 3-4 are going to be for wired connections. Steps 5-##### are for Wireless... Ok now what you need to do is plug in your eathernet cable into any of the ports on the back of your ROUTER.

Your computer or xbox (360) will automaticly detect the internet connection if it has Plug and Play tech. If not go to start, My Computer, My Network Places, Veiw Network Connections, And enable Local Network Connection.

Ok for wireless this can vary. For xbox 360 you need to go to network connections and manually select the network you want to connect to. For PC use step 4 and enable any wireless setting.

TipsUse a Wireless router with 4 ports so you can use wireless and wired connections.
