How do i set up a printer to my laptop?

I'll be starting school in about a week or so, id i'm going to be needing a printer. I'm assuming that i can just hook it up somehow, but do i have to get the same brand as my laptop? because i dont think i'll find an IBM printer that easily......

  1. You don't have to get the same brand most printers now a days are usb so you just plug it in into the usb port and install the drivers and you are ready to go.


  2. You can get a USB printer or a wireless printer (if your laptop has a wireless card).  Easiest for setup would be to get a USB printer. (most don't come with the USB cable, so don't forget to pick one up)

    Make sure if you have Windows Vista that the printer box says "Vista compatible".

    And no, the manufacturer of the computer and printer do not need to be the same.

    Suggestion:  Look at the HP (all-in-one) printers.  That way you will have a printer, scanner and copier for school.

    **Update**:

    That printer will work fine.  It even has Vista Drivers.

    If you are interested, they have the "newer version" of this printer available on the HP website for $10 more.
