  1. Hi,

    In order to share files and printers then you need to setup a network and then setup filesharing.

    So what you need to do is on the xp machine click;

    Start

    My computer

    in the left hand navigation click on my network places

    then again in the left hand navigation click setup home or small office network, follow the wizard and leave everything as default, once the wizard is done restart the pc.

    Now you need to setup a network on the vista machine i'm not sure how to do this but i think you click;

    start

    network properties or settings (something like this)

    then where the network name is then click customise and then set the network name to mshome like on the xp machine.

    Then restart, and on the vista machine click;

    start

    network and then view full network map

    it should show the other pcs on the network and the xp machine.

    Next you need to setup file and printer sharing;

    So firstly file sharing, on the xp machine go into my documents and create a new folder name it what you like then right click it and click on sharing, give the folder a name and click ok. The folder is then shared on the network and so will be any files etc placed in the folder.

    Next you need to setup printer sharing click;

    start

    printers and faxes

    in the folder find the printer you want to share, right click it and click on sharing, give the printer a name and then the printer will be shared.

    Now that file sharing and printer sharing is setup you need to connect to the folder and printer on the vista pc.

    So go on to the vista pc and click;

    start

    network

    view full network map

    then double click the xp pc in the folder you will see the shared printer and the shared folder.

    Now to connect to the printer just double click it and then if asked just click ok. The printer is then installed into the printers folder.

    Now to connect to the folder, right click the folder and click map network drive, this will place a shortcut in my computer so that its easy to access.

    That is all you need to do any problems just e-mail me and i'll try and help.

  2. ??? i dont reallyt knowthe answer, but i think u plug in da printer to the wireless router

  3. You need to put Link Layer Topology Discovery on the xp computer so the vista computer can see it.

    You need to make the workgroup name the same for both.  By default they are not.  Changing the workgroup name requires a reboot.  XP: Right click My Computer, Computer Name, Change.  Vista: Right click Computer, Properties, Change Settings

    Vista Network and Sharing Center, make network Private.

    To share a folder on the xp computer, right click it, Sharing and Security, share this folder.  Decide if you want people to modify or create in the folder.  To share a printer, right click the printer, choose sharing, and share this printer.

    Then you install the printer on the vista computer as a network printer.  You can map the xp folder as a drive on the vista computer in a windows explorer window, using tools.
