How do i set up the surround sound with the sky?

i have just bought a fresh 60 inch tv hd tv and i bought surround sound and connected all my speakers.

i also have a hdmi cable if that helps

the surround sound isnt working properly on the dvd (why? because only the 2 front speakers work and i have 5 speakers in total. i give you extra points for answering this) ok 2 work at the moment.

i want the 2 speakers that are working to be working with sky.

help me.how do i do it

i have a lg computer with lg speakers

  1. Surround sound is only carried with an optical audio cable (also called TOSLink) or digital coax cable (looks like an RCA cable with an orange connector.)

    Otherwise, if you use the red/white RCA cables you can only get stereo sound.

    Some receivers have a "fake surround" mode which can send the stereo signal to all 5 of your speakers, but this isn't the same as true 5.1 dolby digital surround that most DVDs support.

    Also, while HDMI can carry both an audio and video signal, your receiver cannot split the audio signal out.  So, you'll have to still connect your devices to your surround sound receiver with an optical or digital coax cable.

    Finally, most TV shows are only in stereo, so even if you do connect your satellite box to the surround system with the  proper cable, don't be surprised if you only get stereo sound most of the time.  Most HD programming - especially movies - will carry a surround sound signal, so try one of those.
