I sort of remember how from Home Ec.but we did it with patterns and I was wondering what sort of measurements do I take and how to cut the pieces and all to sew together.

Thanks for all useful answers ahead of time!

  1. Take hip measurement and divide in half.

add 3 to 5 inches to this measurement

Take waist around crotch and back to waist measurement.

Add 2 inches to this measurement.

Take measurement from waist to ankle.

Add 3 1/4 inches to this measurement.

lay fabric out, imagine half of pants, and get a nice fitting shorts or slacks and lay on one side, down the 2 inches from the top of the fabric. Draw the front crotch lines with pencil, then draw the back crotch lines. Cut, seam the legs Then stitch the crotch. Fold the waist band down twice one inch, stitch and insert 3/4 inch elastic to fit waist. Fold up hemline quarter inch then 1 inch and stitch.

I make Civil War "drawers" to wear under my re-enactment gowns.
