I have desktop and laptop that both run windows xp how do i share files between them without anything else?

  1. You would want to create a Home Network and enable file and print sharing.You would need a router to connect the 2 together.


  2. YOU DO NOT NEED A ROUTER TO SHARE. All you need is an ethernet crossover cable with manually assigned IPs.

    Set up a manual IP address on both computers, with no Default Router or DNS.

    Example:

    Desktop:

    IP: 0.0.0.1

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    Laptop:

    IP: 0.0.0.2

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    They should then connect, and be able to access each others shared files.

  3. Another option, if both computers have USB ports available, is to get a USB plug-in drive to move the files. They're tiny and dirt-cheap anymore.
