How do i share music, pictures and other files from my desktop computer to my laptop computer?

on my desktop computer i have the windows xp home edition version and on my laptop computer i have the vista home editon version?

what do i need to do for me to be able to share the media from desktop to my laptop?

  3. I am assuming you have a broadband connection, so you just need a router. They are between $40 and $75 at most computer and office supply stores.

    Once you have installed the router (the directions are on the CD and in the manual) connect your two computers to the router with Ethernet cables or wireless, depending on the router and hardware you have

    Make sure both computers have the same work group

    If one computer is XP and one is Vista, go to the MS Knowledge base, download the LLTD utility and install it on the XP machine.

    Enable file and print sharing on both computers.

    Set up the computers to obtain their IP address and DNS servers automatically.

    The router will control your network and allow both machines to access the Internet
