I've mainly seen this done in churches, but his is how it works: if a particular hymn or scripture is being read, the person on the computer goes to that hymn or text and displays it on the projectors for the congregation. however, the projector doesn't display them going int my documents, or opening a new power point presentation. what the projector shows is completely different from what the public sees. does any one know how this is done? is there a special software that is needed?

  1. If your laptop has an s-video output, it likely already has a dual monitor card.  You will just have to go into the settings to activate that output, set its output resolution, and set it to dual mode (as opposed to clone mode, where both monitors show the same picture).

  2. You need a dual monitor video card. Keep the laptop as the main display and the projector array as the secondary. Nvideo makes several versions, so does ATI. Try to get one with a lot of on-board ram.
