  1. Just convert $2.49 per square foot to square inches. 1 square foot=144 square inches. Whichever is the cheaper one, is the better buy.

  2. $2.49 per square foot.

  3. A tile that is a square foot is 1 ft. x 1 ft.  The cost is $2.49/sq. ft.

Now measure that in inches.  It is 12 in. x 12 in. = 144 sq. inches.  Compute the cost paid by the sq. inch.

    144 sq. inches x 0.03/sq. inch = $4.32/sq. ft.

The first option is the better choice; buy by the sq. ft.

  4. it would take 144 sq inches to make a square foot, so multiply .03 times 144 and see which is better priced.

If you have a one foot ruler and made a square, using the length of the ruler, you'd have one square foot, right?  Now, if you used that same ruler but marked off the inches, still making the square the length of the ruler, you know have a square that is 12 inches, by 12 inches, or 144 square inches.  So, 2.49 per square foot or 144 (.03/sq inch).  You're better off per sq foot.

  5. First of all, a square foot (1foot by 1foot) can also be considered as 12inches by 12inches (since there are 12inches in a foot). A = L*W

So, 12 *12 = 144 square inches. So thats how many squares inches are in that square foot.

To calculate price per square inch, take price and divide by the total square inches.

2.49 / 144 = price per square inch. (about 0.017, so less than 2 cents per square in.

So the 2.49 square foot tiles are a better buy

  6. there are 12 * 12 = 144 square inches / square foot

    144 * .03 = 4.32

so a square foot worth of square inch tiles will cost $4.32-- doesn't look quite as economical as the square foot tile for $2.49

(and you can cut the bigger tile to fit the corner)
