  1. I worked overseas two years ago and my wife and I talked by using Yahoo Instant Messanger.  It has a voice chat feature that makes it just like a telephone.  There was about a three second delay, but for free you can deal with that.

  2. My husbad and I speak to his familiy in Colombia using Yahoo instant messegner video chat. Like the other person said, there is a little delay but it isn't bad. It is better than not seeing them at all!

His family used to go to an internet cafe to do it but they finally got there on PC ! It is awesome.

    Best Wishes!

    :-)

  3. Skype is the most internationally reknown way to speak over the internet. However, check with the country as there are some latin american countries which cannot connect to skyoe due to limits in broadband. However, Panama is quite an "international" country so I guess they dont have that problem there.

  4. Man tell your family that they can use either MSN Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, Skype, etc. to talk using their PC.  If they don't have a PC they can go to a Cyber Cafe and the guys there will help them to get a user name and to log on and chat.

Contrary to popular knowledge all major underwater fiberoptic network cables run through Panama along side the Canal, so we have a lot of bandwidth to work with.  It all depends on the speed your provider is giving you.

  5. Yahoo Instant Messenger or MSN Messenger Live

  6. If you both have broadband connections, I would advise you to install skype on your computer as well as theirs - this allows you to use the computers as you would phones (you can even buy skype phones that plug into your computer instead of a phone line) - and it is completely, 100% free.  I've used it and its great and there is NO delay at all.  Works exactly like a telephone.  skype.com

As per video conferencing (allowing you to see face to face), I suggest doing a google search for "free video conferencing" and see what comes up (I found http://www.dwyco.citymax.com/page/page/7... by doing that but I cant speak for that site having never tried it)

Of course for live streaming 2-way video, the most important thing you would need would be a screeching fast internet connection on both sides.

    good luck!
