How do i start a rose bush from excisting bush

  1. Cut off a section of new growth 3" or 4 "remove all but top 2 leaves dip end into root hormone and stick in sand or potting medium.  Keep it out of direct sunlight, but make sure it has light and keep moist but not wet.  Once it developes roots transplant in larger pot.


  2. I call this the idiot method, works for me every time. Find a lower branch that bends easily to the ground with about a foot extra. Nick the branch where it first touched the ground and give the nick a dusting of rooting hormone. Place small rock over the nick to hold the branch in place and cover all but the extra foot with soil. Next spring you can cut it from the mother and plant it. All this said you may end up with a less vigorous plant than the original. Most roses are grafted to a sturdier root stock.  RScott
