  1. Well, it's around 7 - 15k for your private course. Ummm.....my friend in flight school asked his school if he could wash planes in exchange for free lessons, and it worked. However, mine didn't let me so ask. Ummm....some schools provide student loans if you qualify.

  2. Not gonna be cheap... Costs around $10,000.

  3. It will be a little costly. To find out the nearest flying school around your place, I would do a Google search. Go to Cessna's website to see if they have a location in you zip code or a nearby zip code. Hope this helps.

  4. Jump out the window and start flapping your arms.

  5. There aren’t many airports near you – including your zip code was a good idea.

    Couple of ideas:

Corning – Costa Flying Service – no website, 607-962-0053

Elmira/Corning may work too.  Check it out.

    Learn to fly!

  6. ask at the nearest flying school

  7. http://www.beapilot.com

  8. Flying isnt cheap. You do have some choices to make it cheaper. First is you must study hard so you dont waste time in the plane when you should be experiencing your book knowlege not learning. Second, join a flying club or buy a partial ownership, it makes it way cheaper. Third create a timeline and plan of accomplishing becomming a pilot. Fourth join the AOPA (aopa.org). They have lots of free information to get you started. The FAA (faa.gov click on pilots then education then handbooks) also has free books for learning the knowlege you need to pass the written test. Good luck.

  9. The cost for flying lessons vary depending on how often you fly (if you fly a lot in a short time, you tend to retain more information and spend less overall time flying) and on the school's prices.

Simply go to a local airplane that has a sign saying "Learn to fly here". Ask for a 'discovery flight'. These are usually very cheap compared to a flight lesson and are much shorter, but they introduce you to the aircraft and the training areas of that airport. The CFI will usually let you control the aircraft after takeoff and before landing.

I typed your zip code into Google Earth and hit airports, here are the results:

    1. Dundee Flying Club

    2. Costa Flying Services.

    3. Dansville Airport

    4. Penn Yan Airport

    5. Middlesex Valley Airport.

If you type these into google, you should find their websites.

  10. It should NOT cost you 10K to get your private pilot's license.

Be smart. Check around. Do not go to any of those "pay ahead" schools (so many schools go under or get bought out and you may not get your money back).

Most places offer discovery flights. Make sure you find a CFI you enjoy flying with. Go to any local airport and follow the "fly here" signs.

www.airnav.com will help you find an airport near you.

Good luck .. and have fun!
